Our guest illustrators, R. Gregory Christie and Kelsi Jackson, will draw live to stories submitted by local authors.  Join us as we watch the rumble go down over #KidsLitArt!


R. Gregory Christie is an award winning illustrator and owner of GAS-ART Gifts, an autographed children's bookstore, gallery and open art studio in Decatur, GA. Kelsi Jackson is a professional artist, designer, children's book illustrator and creator of the webcomic series "A Slice of Life".   She is currently living and working in Atlanta, supporting the Arts Community.  Learn more about Kelsi Jackson and her wonderful work:

Illustrators Showdown Manuscript Contest

So, you’ve written a picture book and you want to see it come to life?

BE BRAVE and send your unpublished picture book manuscripts (400 words maximum) to be illustrated by professional illustrators!

Submissions will be reviewed and selected to be read for our Illustrators to draw live at LIT STORY FEST (Children’s Literary Day, Saturday, September 29, 11am – 5pm. More Info:

Event: Illustrators Showdown with R.Gregory Christie and Kelsi Jackson
Date: Saturday, September 29, 2018
Time: 3 PM – 4 PM for Illustrators Showdown

Here’s how it works:
This opportunity is open to the public. Authors are to send their manuscripts to Manuscript submissions Deadline: September 22, 2018.

Manuscript submission criteria:
* Original, unpublished and uncontracted picture book manuscripts only (“Unpublished” includes both traditional and self-published).
* must be written for 32 page formatted picture book and 3-8 age range and reading aloud during Illustrators Showdown
* No longer than 400 words
* Only one manuscript will be accepted
* Only send text. No pictures.
* Fiction work of any theme
* Double spaced 12 point, typed, in either .doc or docx formats
* Header to include: Your Name, Manuscript Title, and Word Count
* Written in English.
* Email it to with the subject: Illustrators Showdown_{Your First Name_Your Last Name}. Please follow this as it will help us manage the emails.
* Entries must be received by September 22, 2018.

All manuscripts submitted by deadline and following the directions above will be reviewed and selected for inclusion in the Illustrators Showdown on Saturday, September 29. The judge will select up to five (5) manuscripts to be read as part of Lit Story Fest Illustrator’s Showdown on Saturday, September 29, 2018.
One winner will have their work illustrated live at the Illustrator’s Showdown!

The Winner:
* will receive a written critique
* will receive a certificate
* will be announced at Lit Story Fest
* will have their manuscript read aloud during the Illustrators Showdown
