Our Mission

The 2018 Lit Story Fest (LSF) was founded on purposeful, family-oriented, community gathering to encourage the love of multicultural storytelling across various art forms.  The Lit Story Fest is on a Mission to Light the Way to Literacy and encourages the community to Learn, Inspire and Teach (LIT)  through creative storytelling in Literature, Visual Art, and Spoken Words.

Programs for the LSF engage visitors of all ages from DeKalb County and beyond in a celebration of storytelling in its many forms. The festival includes book readings, workshops, a StorySlam!, family-friendly performances, and much so more.  Through creative programming we will become an integral part of the artistic and cultural landscape of the metropolitan Atlanta area.

We support the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program in DeKalb County.  The 1000 Books Foundation organizational objectives are:

  • to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers

  • to encourage parent and child bonding through reading

With a mission to engage the public through educational outreach activities, our programs include Art Exhibits, Author's Talks, Workshops and Live Performances which reflect a rich collective of expression in community storytelling.  Diversity in voices through multi-media platforms allows us to:

  • Create a destination event with an economic impact that will highlight the assets of southeast DeKalb County by encouraging tourism through arts programming;

  • Encourage and support early literacy initiatives supported by families, schools, libraries and educational programs;

  • Support diverse, cross-cultural, and family-oriented storytelling in books, visual and performing arts;  We seek to provide opportunities for authors, illustrators, booksellers, presenters, and performers to engage the public through the art of storytelling.
